Commitment to Service. Individual Lions and Leo clubs volunteer to address local humanitarian needs by using their time, talent, voice and resources to improve the overall wellbeing of their communities. Collectively, the efforts and contributions of Lions and Leo clubs, districts, multiple districts, and Lions controlled entities/foundations have the potential to advance global development agendas and address some of the greatest maladies afflicting humanity today. To that end, Lions Clubs International is committed to uniting Lions and Leos in tackling pressing global challenges through the development
and support of strategic, comprehensive, and measurable service opportunities
and our nation. A road safety awareness committee and programs can begin with actions like for road crossing, passenger shelters. Clubs will work with the Police and local governments in their area to reduce road carnage.
Our goal is to respond to emergencies as they happen and to create continuous road safety awareness for at least 200 persons by June 30th 2025. To achieve this , we will be having;
By providing environmental stewardship, we strengthen the relationship between communities & their environment. We create better health and a more sustainable world for us and future generations. Environment will be one of our two frontline service areas.
Our goal is to serve 5,000 people through environmental activities by 30 June 2025
Therefore, we will:
Ever since Helen Keller inspired Lions to champion the vision cause in 1925, we have served and advocated for the blind and visually impaired. This long-standing mission continues unhindered.
Our goal to serve 1,000 people through vision related activities by 30th June 2025. The interventions include conducting screening and surgical eye camps. Health education, training and treatment facility support are also part of our work.
Lions Clubs International is the world leader in the effort to prevent avoidable blindness, and diligently work with Lions clubs and local partners to help provide the local capacity building, training, medications and treatment needed for those with eye diseases and to provide disability rehabilitation and education for all. Lions from areas where LCIF Sight First programs are located must endeavor to participate in eye camp screening and treatment and report outcomes. We continue to commit to prevention of avoidable blindness and improved quality of life for people who are blind and visually impaired in our communities.
“Lions clubs exist to encourage service minded men and women to serve their communities without personal financial gain, and to encourage efficiency, and promote high ethical standards in commerce, industry, professions and other forms of public works and private endeavours” We work to change the world, one action at a time’’.
All clubs and members need to participate in community service delivery. Service planning is critical and takes into account: needs assessment timing, resources to use, stakeholders, packaging, delivery, reporting, celebration for team satisfaction and impact.
A good mix of awareness, advocacy and physical service delivery will raise club and lions’ visibility.
We generate service ideas and activities locally to remain relevant to our communities. Every club, We endeavour to meet community needs as far as is possible. We also understand that Different communities have different needs.
Cancer is a leading cause of death for children and adolescents around the world. Globally, approximately 400,000 children aged 0 to 19 years old are diagnosed with cancer each year. 9/10 of these live in low and middle income countries. Only 20-30% of these survive cancer in low income countries as opposed to 80% in high income countries.
Our goal is to serve more than 500 children and persons who can be directly affected by this disease.
In Uganda, it is estimated that about 4,000 to 6,000 new cases of childhood cancer occur each year. Most children go undiagnosed or are diagnosed too late for successful intervention due to lack of healthcare providers who are knowledgeable about childhood cancer. Experts tell us that if detected early, childhood cancer can be treated to normality. Clubs should work with health workers to conduct childhood cancer awareness campaigns in the media, hospitals and public spaces. Ongoing LCIF partnership with Global HOPE is trying to help address the huge discrepancies in outcomes from childhood cancer in developed and developing countries. Global HOPE has a presence at Mulago National Referral Hospital where LCIF has undertaken to support establishment of a modern childhood cancer pharmacy.
Cancer treatment can be expensive and takes a long time. In most cases, the parents are poor and have to seek treatment in far off hospitals. Government is offering support and Lions can provide support to those who give care to and the sick children.
Lions should organize childhood cancer activities to commemorate the World Cancer Day on 4th February 2025 and Childhood Cancer Day, 15th February 2025.
Close to 500 million people are affected by Diabetes globally. About 5 million people (or one out of five) succumb to diabetes annually. The goal is to conduct diabetes awareness campaigns and screening camps to serve 200,000 people by 30 June 2025.
As Lions, we have committed ourselves to fight for better diabetes relief. Our district will continue to run initiatives and programs that will improve the lives of those living with diabetes and helping others from developing type 2 diabetes.
Our goal is to serve 1,000 people through Diabetes screening, awareness and support activities by 30th June 2025. Therefore, this is what we intend to do as aclub:
Many people in our communities are affected by hunger & nutrition crisis. As Lions, we take this challenge head-on to ensure hunger relief for our community members.
Some people are too vulnerable to meet their food and nutritional needs such as the urban poor, patients in hospitals, orphanages, homes/hostels for the physically and mentally challenged and childhood cancer patients, the elderly persons in communities, children in schools, and disaster stricken communities among others.
We need to think of their nutritional needs and know that Charity begins at home.Lions look at friends, family and neighbours in need of food first. LCIF has undertaken to support World Food program with a grant of USD 1,000,000 to feed hundreds of thousands of School going children in Karamoja in the course of this Lions’ year. The District will participate actively in this program with a view of creating hunger prevention measures and report outcomes.
Our goal is to serve 5,000 people by 30th June 2025. The goal can be achieved by
The Youth Camps and Exchange (YCE) is an international program designed for young people between the ages of 15 and 22 to create and foster a spirit of understanding among peoples of the world. We will pilot it locally through our schools and other structures to see regional youth exchanges for cultural and productive learning.
YCE is aimed at providing an avenue for global fellowship, helping youth to initiate, grow and maintain international relationships that promote cultural education and international peace.
Aware this international program is out of reach for most of our students and parents, we will pilot a similar program in our District and Multiple District for our LEO club members
